“The Anointing – 101”…Blog.
Thank you for “Asking”…! First please allow me to explain the OT economy of Anointing and then I will explain the NT concept. Many speak of the “OT & NT” anointing of the same thing… but they are as ‘radically’ different as “Night & Day!” In the OT the Holy Spirit came and went… dependant on the obedience of the believer. Surely all remember the facts about; Saul and David in 1Samuel…? IF you don’t… perhaps this will help.
*** (1Samuel 16:7) But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his face, nor on his height, because I have refused him. For He does not see as man sees. For man looks on the outward appearance, = but Jehovah looks on the heart.
*** (1Samuel 16:14-15) But the spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, = and an evil spirit from Jehovah terrified him.
(1Sa 16:15) And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, = an evil spirit from God terrifies you.
*** (Psalms 51:11-12) Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
(Psalms 51:12) Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Depending on heart motive… and ‘obedience’ to God… in the OT… He took away His Holy Spirit from believers. Saul anointed the first king of Israel… disobeyed God and was given an evil spirit to rule him till his demise. King David committed Adultery with Bathsheba, killed her husband and other soldiers with him. The lives of those ‘innocent’ men were upon David. Simply read Psalms 51 that speaks about his repentance. The “Holy Spirit” was represented by the ‘Anointing Oil’… used by Samuel the prophet.
*** (1John 2:20) But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
*** (Ephesians 1:13) in whom also you, hearing the Word of Truth, the gospel of our salvation, in whom also believing, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
*** (1Corinthians 12:13) For also by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free, even all were made to drink into one Spirit.
*** (Romans 8:9) But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
In the NT economy… the Church is separated from the OT economy of Sacrifices for Sin. The “Finished Work of Redemption”… by Christ Jesus… the Messiah is a… “Once for All Time Sacrifice!” No more are daily sacrifices required under the Law of God given through Moses. Many confuse this issue… not knowing this… “Fact!” Salvation by God’s Grace & Mercy Alone… is called being ‘Born Again [from above] The Holy Spirit take us present and eternal resident in the True Believer… never to leave… as was the OT economy.
*** (John 7:37-38-39) And in the last day of the great feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
(John 7:38) He who believes on Me, as the Scripture has said, "Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."
(John 7:39) But He spoke this about the Spirit, which they who believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
*** (John 14:16-17-18) And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, so that He may be with you forever,
(John 14:17) the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He dwells with you and shall be in you.
(John 14:18) I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.
*** (Hebrews 12:2) looking to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right of the throne of God.
*** (Hebrews 5:9) And being perfected, He became the Author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him,
“Christ Jesus” in His Finished Work of Redemption… He... Sat Down at the right hand of the Throne of God. He is the Author of “Eternal Salvation”… not temporary. Never do you read in the OT of a ‘chair’ anywhere in the tabernacle or in the temple. The OT priests continually offered sacrifices. “Each Day”… “Every Day”… “Continually!” If you live near a Burger King or an Outback Steak house… you can smell the continual cooking. So it was in the OT economy of the Continual Offerings…!
*** (Hebrews 10:10) By this will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
*** (1Corinthians 5:7) Therefore purge out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For also Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.

Now for the ‘word’… “Anointing” In the Greek NT, “Textus Receptus”… this word means a “Once for ‘All’ Time” act. It is of the same meaning in the word… “Sealed”… speaking of the Holy Spirit sealing the real believer. “Once for ‘All’ Time!” The baptism of the Holy Spirit… comes from God… to the believer… “Once for ‘All’ Time!” Being Born Again… only happens… “Once for ‘All’ Time!” Simple when one looks at the work of the Holy Spirit… given by God’s grace and mercy… free from All Work of Mankind! The Holy Spirit means “Eternal Life” in the true believer… “Once for ‘All’ Time!”
*** (Ephesians 3:16-to-19) that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man;
(Eph 3:17) that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
(Eph 3:18) may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height,
(Eph 3:19) and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.
*** (Ephesians 5:17-18) Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
(Eph 5:18) And do not be drunk with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit,
*** (Ephesians 4:30) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you are sealed until the day of redemption.
About now… one may see that Salvation and being Born Again… and living for Christ… is "All" the power of the Holy Spirit and not of us. Take some time… and read through the NT… writing down in a note book… all the verses that pertain to the Holy Spirit and Salvation. This will not happen overnight. Mushrooms grow up overnight but soon wither. Oak trees take a long time to mature. Yet most would enjoy a desk made from oak… and not mushrooms! …LOL!

*** (Psalms 119:11) I have hidden Your Word in my heart, so that I might not sin against You.
*** (Psalms 119:18) Open my eyes, so that I may behold wonderful things out of Your Law.
*** (2Timothy 2:15) Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
*** (2Timothy 4:2-3-4) preach the Word, be instant in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.
(2Tim 4:3) For a time will be when they will not endure sound doctrine, but they will heap up teachers to themselves according to their own lusts, tickling the ear.
(2Tim 4:4) And they will turn away their ears from the truth and will be turned to myths.
